Jim: Ham & Swiss on rye, cup of summer corn chowder, potato chips, 1/2 baguette French bread, iced tea
Ramona: 1/2 Sierra turkey sandwich, cup of creamy tomato soup, potato chips, iced tea
I love Panera Bread's low-fat honey walnut cream cheese spread for my morning bagels and we were out, so I suggested we go by there for lunch and pick some up.
Once again we were pleased with our soups and salads. Jim likes the bread so much that he always wants a baguette as a side item even when he is having a sandwich. We also bought a loaf of rye bread to take home.

Jim: Clam chowder, Chicken Tomesto (spring greens, roasted tomatoes, pesto sauce), iced tea
One of the best places for lunch in Waco. Soup comes with a side, and I always choose a nice hunk of french baguette, then I cheat and save it for dessert -- no butter, all by itself. YUM! Ramona loves the chips (I don't turn those down with my sandwich), which are great.

Ramona: Bowl of Tomato soup with asiago cheese bread croutons, half a tuna salad sandwich, Panera Bread chips, iced tea.

What else can we say about PB? Our favorite place for lunch, especially when it is followed by a visit to the nearby Books-a-Million. PB had lots of lemons this time.

Ramona: Chicken Salad sandwich on sesame/semolina bread, pickle, chips, diet Pepsi
Jim: Chicken Caesar sandwich on sourdough, chips, cup of cream of chicken and rice soup, slice of baguette, iced tea
I am not sure what "panera" means, but I wouldn't be surprised if it meant outstanding. We both love the bread -- always fresh, and frequently warm, as was the slice of baguette I picked for my side with the soup. The soup was also good -- not scalding hot, as some like it.
We have never had a bad lunch at Panera Bread, and it is one of our treasured treats before heading over to Books-a-Million on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
One thing on this visit, however, left a small blemish. They were completely out of lemons. I will never understand how restaurants can run out of staples -- cups, lids, napkins, lemons. Lots of places in this part of Texas have stopped carrying lemon for their tea. What kind of people drink iced tea with no lemon? Especially considering the awful tasting Waco water; lemons are essential, but don't get me started on lemons filled with seeds.
