Ramona: orange juice, banana-nut french toast, sugar-free syrup, sausage, coffee
Jim: breakfast burrito (egg, potato, cheese, sausage), latte
Since we breakfasted here on a rare weekday, we both picked something completely different.
Neither of us was disappointed. The atmosphere seemed a little different, and the other diners seemed a little different, but the food and the service amounted to what we always expect -- the best breakfast in Waco.

Where else could we have breakfast on our 5th wedding anniversary than Cafe Cappuccino? We had our wedding breakfast there five years ago today. Ironically we ran into Jim's former dean who performed the wedding ceremony, and another friend who helped Jim see how much he loved Ramona and brought him to the realization we were meant for each other.
Oh, yes, the food. Excellent as always.

Even though we have frequently reviewed Cafe Cappuccino, we felt it deserved a special mention, as the celebration of Ramona's birthday continued this weekend.
The only problem Jim experienced at CC involved the drowning of eggs Benedict in the hollandaise sauce. He began asking for it on the side. As he placed the order this time, the manager told us they had begun the regular practice of placing the sauce on the side. We hope our little blog made some small contribution to this improvement.
Too much sauce drowns the egg yolk.
Bravo, Cafe Cappuccino! And thanks for six years of wonderful breakfasts. We will see you soon again!

We had some grocery shopping and errands to run, so we thought an early breakfast was the thing to do. The place was empty at that hour, but nearly filled by the time we left.
Ramona's bacon was perfect this time, and the oatmeal was hot and delicious with some brown sugar on top. Still no poppy seed bagels, despite and article in the paper that the poppy seeds will not give a false positive on a drug test. Seinfeld episodes rule from the grave!

I like this dish, even though they use regular ham and not Canadian bacon, but they always drown the plate in hollandaise sauce, so I started asking for it on the side. Much improvement, but they still give me a large bowl. I hate to waste over half of it, but I can only ask for 1/2 of a bowl.
Although it was not crowded (we were seated in about five minutes), the service was really poor today. We waited almost ten minutes before we had out coffee order taken, and then only because we asked for a server. The young lady who had our table was excited to see old friends at the table beside our, and they got all her attention.
Still our favorite place for breakfast!

Ramona: Mixed berry and nut pancake (1), 3 strips bacon, coffee, orange juice
Jim: Eggs Benedict, coffee, V8 juice
We were pleasantly surprised by how uncrowded Cafe Cappuccino was this morning. Maybe the extra hour of sleep threw everyone's schedules off, but we had no trouble walking right in and getting a table right away. Even when we left, it was still not crowded.
Readers of our blog know this is our favorite breakfast place in Waco. Jim often orders the Eggs Benedict and has complained (to me, not to them) that they put too much Hollandaise sauce on. So this time, he requested it on the side and the dish was much more to his liking.
Looking back at how many times we've been to CC this year (16!!!), I was surprised to see that this was the first time I've ordered the mixed berry and nut pancake. It really is yummy! Once again, though, I asked for SOFT bacon and one of my slices was almost burned. The other two were very done and crispy. I didn't complain, but I promise I will next time it happens!

Sunday morning. A beautiful day. The New York Times. What else but Cafe Cappuccino! Another perfect breakfast, except I forgot to ask for the hollandaise sauce on the side. The sauce here is good, but they put too much on the eggs, and the yolk gets lost in the sauce.
We also got a half pound of their delicious decaf for the office coffee pot. CC has the best breakfast coffee in town. 236th week celebration could not start any other way!

With Hurricane Ike bearing down on Texas, we were afraid our favorite breakfast stop might have been closed, but were happy to see they were open. And at 9:45, it was packed!
Ramona tried something she had never had this time. The banana nut French toast was made with Cafe Cappuccino's homemade bread and was delicious. The bacon was a little overcooked, despite the fact that she asked for it light. Everything was okay with Jim's order, except they forgot to bring his toast. We didn't notice it right away, even though the waitress asked a couple of times if everything was okay. When it came, Jim was delighted with the marbled rye, which is hard to find in Waco.
The staff was happy to comply with Ramona's request for a to-go cup to take her coffee refill with her. We were good to face the blustery day!

Jim: Cassies (egg-white omelet w/ ham, cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes), rye toast, V8, latte
Back to one of our weekend favorites for breakfast. I was in the mood for sausage and chose the cafe scramble which I've had before. It's the perfect mix of sausage, eggs, cheese and hash browns all scrambled up, as the name implies. Jim went for something different -- the ham and cheese omelet made with egg whites and smothered in cheese. We both were satisfied with our choices.

We never tire of CC -- this is our 13th visit. The memories of our wedding day breakfast come back every time we eat here. The food is always good, the service is also good considering the crowds we always find there.
This was my first taste of the gingerbread waffle, and I was pleased. The waffle was hot -- the melted butter proved that! Ramona's bacon was just the way she likes it: a bit this side of crispy. My latte was perfect this time. I had almost forgotten the mix up last time, but when Ramona asked how it was, I remembered.

Not a good visit from this usually reliable eatery. Ramona distinctly asked for medium bacon, but she got three pieces of over-done, almost blackened meat. I asked for a decaf latte with skim milk. I don't think the waitress was listening, because I got a very weak coffee that tasted more like warm milk. When I complained she said she would "Tell C---- in the back," and then she disappeared. When we got the bill, we were charged for a mocha in addition to the latte. When I questioned it, she said, "That was the flavor in your coffee. " She took that off, but despite my repeated complaint she did nothing to make the coffee right. We are pretty frequent customers here, and we will go back, but this is no way to treat regulars.

CC has so many fond memories for us, we love to share a weekend breakfast there. This is an almost exact repeat of our last visit, and for good reason.
I was thinking of Eggs Benedict, but I find it hard to bring myself to eat eggs on Saturday. When we were kids, my family always had pancakes on Saturday, and eggs on Sunday. My oldest sister began referring to the weeknd as "pancake" and "egg." French toast is cheating just a bit, but the syrup carries the day. This is one of those places we have never had a bad meal. The french toast is perfect and delicious in every way.

10:45 - 11:45 AM
Ramona: orange juice, bacon, tomato & cheese omelet, pancake, coffee
Jim: V8 juice, "Cassie" (egg whites, ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, cheese), english muffin, coffee
I almost always get Eggs Benedict, but I wanted to try something a bit different, so I went with the egg whites omelet, and I sure did miss those yolks! Even salt and pepper didn't help much. I also tasted Ramona's pancake, and it was delicious. No doubt about it, the best pancakes in Waco, as their tee-shirts proclaim. Ramona's omelet was full and fluffy. This is not a knock on CC, but next time, I will go back to EB.

10:30 AM - 12:0o PM
Ramona: French toast, medium bacon, orange juice, coffee
Jim: Eggs benedict, V8 juice, coffee
On our 202nd week anniversary, we had to have breakfast at CC. Undoubtedly our favorite haunt on a weekend morning in Waco. Of course, Benedict's in Dallas is also high on the list, as we spent many, many Sunday mornings there after a fabulous weekend of movies, museums, and munching. One weekend soon, we will be back there, so keep an eye out for that review.
The bacon was perfect, the eggs benedict were also top notch. At one time they used ham and bread, and I urged them to switch to Canadian bacon and English muffins, and they have gone to muffins, but it still comes with a piece of ham. Nevertheless, it was great. As we said before, the coffee continues to be perfect for us -- tasty, fresh, and medium strong.
Ramona noticed that they had quite a few extra people working there today, and maybe that was the reason we had only a short wait despite the church crowd. The earlier the better if you do not want to wait to be seated. Even a 30 minute wait (the longest we ever had) is worth it.
